THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY

Been sick with a cold the past week, so I’ve had time to think about interviews that got away – people I would have liked to interview.

Top on the list is Karen Carpenter. When everyone was into the Rolling Stones in the late 60s, early 70s, I was crooning with The Carpenters. At times I was slightly embarrassed to admit it because others would poke fun and call ya ‘white bread’ or ‘uncool.’ Today I’m proud of it! Karen was such a talent and had the voice of -- I know its cliché -- but an angel. She was pitch-perfect and sang with such clarity. When I hear her songs played now, I get chills.

In the late 80s they made a TV movie about her life. Cynthia Gibb played Karen and Mitch Anderson played Richard.
Louise Fletcher played their mother. I hope they release it on DVD. I’d like to see it again.

This is the quintessential Christmas album ever!

Over the past couple of years I’ve pursued an interview with Richard, but I was told that he does not do interviews any longer.

For All We Know, Karen’s probably on Top Of The World looking down on all our Rainy Days And Mondays. And Karen, We’ve Only Just Begun because I still feel very Close To You…..

I'm with you.
I loved the Carpenters when I was a kid.
I still sing their songs.
There was a beautiful innocence to them and the harmonies were so easy on the ears.
Thanks for reminding us of a lovely voice.

I will (now, not so) secretly admit to you that I am a closet Carpenters Fan. This is totally dating myself here, but one of my first 8 tracks was The Carpenters.
